About

“While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” Dorothea Lange

Ms. Gary’s work focuses on capturing the identity of place through contrasts in cultural landscapes – the imprint of humans on geography, the interaction between the built and natural worlds, and the human stories hidden within physical structures. Her images explore themes of destruction, renewal, and isolation, encourage critical historical and geographic examination, and invoke both the literal and symbolic contrast of past vs. present.
